Job Description

Due to the continuing success and growth of our team in UAE, this fantastic opportunity has opened up at our award-winning specialist consultancy, engineering and advisory firm.

At AESG we are looking for a Technical Director - Sustainability, who will provide technical leadership and oversight across the delivery of sustainability services, ensuring excellence, innovation, and impact in every project. The role will be responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of advanced strategies across sustainable design, building and urban physics, circularity, climate resilience, carbon assessment, and sustainability strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership & Delivery Excellence

  • Serve as the technical authority across all sustainability services, ensuring rigorous, high-quality, and consistent delivery across diverse project types and scales.
  • Drive best-in-class technical practices for sustainability, with deep focus on performance-driven design, decarbonisation, and integrated solutions.
  • Lead and support the delivery of key projects involving LEED, BREEAM, WELL, Mostadam, Estidama, and other regional and global green building certification schemes.
  • Oversee the development of robust project strategies and certification roadmaps, ensuring alignment with client aspirations, cost constraints, and environmental performance outcomes.
  • Conduct technical reviews and QA/QC across critical deliverables, ensuring compliance with certification frameworks and alignment with international sustainability standards.


Project & Portfolio Management

  • Oversee technical delivery across a diverse portfolio of sustainability projects, ensuring client satisfaction, timely completion, and alignment with business targets.
  • Provide input and problem-solving support for technically challenging and multi-disciplinary sustainability projects.
  • Work with project managers and divisional leads to allocate resources effectively, optimise delivery methodologies, and implement efficient workflows.


Strategic Vision & Market Development

  • Support the strategic evolution of AESGs sustainability offering by tracking and interpreting emerging trends in green building, climate resilience, and low-carbon development.
  • Identify opportunities to expand the firms capabilities in certification, digital performance modelling, circular economy strategies, and climate risk advisory.
  • Represent AESG in industry forums, technical working groups, and policy discussions, contributing to the advancement of sustainability benchmarks and standards.


Team Development & Technical Mentorship

  • Mentor and guide a growing team of sustainability engineers, consultants, and specialists, with a focus on technical excellence and green certification expertise.
  • Lead training sessions on certification schemes, emerging tools, and methodologies to elevate the overall technical competency of the team.
  • Ensure alignment between the teams technical skillsets and project demands, supporting professional development and career growth.


Client Engagement & Commercial Oversight

  • Act as a senior technical interface for clients, supporting business development, proposal development, and long-term relationship building.
  • Provide strategic advice on sustainability certification pathways, carbon performance targets, and design-stage optimisation strategies.
  • Contribute to commercial decision-making, ensuring alignment between technical delivery, project budgets, and profitability targets.


Qualification /Experience:

  • MSc or MEng in Sustainability, Environmental Engineering, Building Physics, Architecture, or related field
  • 15+ years of experience in sustainability consulting within the built environment, with a strong portfolio of successful green building certifications.
  • Deep knowledge of global and regional green building standards (e.g., LEED, BREEAM, WELL, Estidama, Mostadam, EDGE, and others).
  • 7+ years of experience in leading high-performing technical teams and delivering technically complex, multi-disciplinary projects.
