The Government of Nauru is seeking an experienced and strategic Medical Tourism Coordinator to lead and expand the country's medical and wellness tourism initiatives. This role will focus on developing and executing strategies to connect Nauruan patients with quality medical care abroad—such as in India, Thailand, and other destinations—while also exploring opportunities to develop Nauru’s own wellness tourism offerings.

Location: Republic of Nauru

Key Responsibilities:

Medical Tourism Strategy & Coordination

  • Lead the implementation of Nauru’s medical tourism strategy to streamline patient referrals and care abroad.
  • Build and manage strong relationships with hospitals, wellness centers, and governments in key partner countries (e.g. India, Thailand, Australia).
  • Develop comprehensive medical travel packages that include treatment, accommodation, visas, and transportation.
  • Coordinate with international hospitals to obtain accurate quotations, treatment plans, and patient updates.
  • Serve as a liaison between patients, government stakeholders, and medical service providers to ensure smooth case management.
  • Represent Nauru at international medical tourism conferences, expos, and networking events.

Wellness Tourism Development

  • Identify potential for local wellness tourism products in partnership with resorts, wellness centers, and hotels.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to develop and promote wellness experiences for international visitors.
  • Support marketing initiatives aimed at promoting Nauru as a destination for rest, recovery, and rejuvenation.

Stakeholder Engagement & Partnerships

  • Engage with domestic and international health, travel, and tourism stakeholders.
  • Secure partnerships with medical institutions and facilitators.
  • Lead internal working groups and provide updates to senior leadership on progress and key developments.

Marketing, Research & Innovation

  • Work with marketing teams to promote Nauru’s outbound and wellness tourism offerings across digital and traditional platforms.
  • Conduct market research and track industry trends to enhance the competitiveness of Nauru’s offerings.
  • Monitor KPIs, develop execution plans, and propose improvements to the overall program.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, tourism, healthcare, or a related field; Master’s preferred.
  • 8–10 years of experience in medical tourism, international patient coordination, healthcare strategy, or related roles.
  • Proven experience in managing international medical travel and building treatment packages.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Familiarity with popular medical tourism destinations and the visa/treatment processes involved.
  • Strong organizational and strategic planning abilities.
