Director, Grants Management (Hybrid Remote/Onsite)
About the position
Directs, plans, and organizes the staff and operations engaged in organization pre-award sponsored program activities. Supports research leadership regarding the identification of annual system priorities for grants and contracts.
Responsibilities
- Leads a Grants Management group by communication with and developing staff members, and building consensus for programs and goals that support a business, function or geographic area. Develops and articulates a short-term strategic vision for areas of responsibility.
- Directs operation and management of pre-award and research development activities for the organization.
- Negotiates agreements with federal, state, corporate, and foundation sponsors on behalf of the organization.
- Partners with Finance to ensure smooth transitions from pre-award to post-award and post-award to close-out.
- Participates in transition from paper to electronic pre- and post-award administration Develops and reports metrics for pre-award activities for the organization.
- Serves as liaison to center heads and departments to ensure positive service orientation for the office.
- Develops appropriate internal and external training for and organization employees.
- Aligns research and non-research efforts with organization priorities.
- Serves as pre-award liaison and partner to the organization foundation.

Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Certified Research Administrator(CRA) or Certified Pre Award Research Administrator(CPRA), required.
- 8-12 years of technical experience and 7+ years of leadership / management experience, required.
- Experience using sponsor electronic systems such as Grants.gov, NIH eRA Commons/ASSIST, NSF Research.gov, NSPIRES, Grants Solutions, Huron Click, InfoEd, or Cayuse.
- Experience interpreting and applying federal, state, sponsor, and institutional policies.
- Experience with Pre- and Post-Award Management in government, nonprofit, or academic settings.
- Strong leadership in a research administration environment, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- A proactive problem-solver with strong critical thinking skills.
Nice-to-haves
- Master's Degree in a related field.
- Experience managing large or interdisciplinary proposal submissions.
- Experience developing and delivering training to research administrators and researchers.
- Familiarity with compliance issues related to research, such as conflict of interest, export controls, human subjects, or cost sharing.
- Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and project management software (e.g., Monday.com, Asana, or similar).
- Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment and manage changing priorities.
